Since I came back from Seville, weather hasn’t been great in Switzerland. Temperatures have dropped suddenly and it feels like winter. The impressive autumn colors from a few weeks ago have faded. It has even snowed already in the lower parts of the country (but it was a brief snowfall and the snow didn’t set). It feels like autumn is gone for good and winter has arrived early… And while we wait for the snow to come and the Christmas lights to be switched on, it seems that the cold, dark skies and the rain have come to stay, specially during the weekends…

Fortunately, there are a few moments of calm. The rain and the dark clouds also need to take a break, and it is in those moments when I feel blessed for having so much nature near home. A few days ago I had one of those brief moments when the sky cleared for a few hours… I didn’t doubt it for a minute. I took my camera, jumped in the car and drove the 20 minutes that separates Türlersee from my home. I only miscalculated the time: with the winter daylight saving time, sunsets are now way too early!! So I arrived in Türlersee just in time to see the clouds catching the last colors before the sun disappeared behind the distant mountains…

I didn’t mind. It felt really good to walk around the pretty little lake. Türlersee, with its calm waters, its reflections and its beautiful forest always reminds me to those lakes in Scandinavia. I got to see some golden tones, not only in the sky, but also on the trees surrounding the lake, and I had fun photographing the last mushrooms in low light (that was a bit of a challenge, as my lens doesn’t have image stabilization and I didn’t bring my tripod).

Here are some photos I took that day. I hope you like them!

  1. A good last minute shoot! There have been many times when I could tell it would be a great sunset, but didn’t run for the camera. By the time I got the camera, found a place to shoot and get there, the sunset would be mostly gone. I’ve often wished that mother nature would let us know ahead of time and have the scene hold for about a half hour!

Thanks a mil, Anne!! Yes, I was so lucky that day with the sky and the reflections… I often miss the most colorful sunsets… I see them through my window and wish I would be out with the camera instead of editing or doing my German homework, hehehe. And then, the weekend comes with clear blue skies and not a single cloud… or a grey, dull sky, like all the last weekends!! I’m already looking forward to January, when we come back after our Christmas holidays in Spain… days will be getting longer and the weather in Switzerland is usually better after Christmas… I hope this year I can photograph some winter sunsets in the mountain!! 🙂

  2. The colours are soft and lovely, especially that first shot. It’s cooler here now too, once the sun’s gone down. 🙂 🙂

Thanks a mil, Jo! So happy you like the photos! It was a wonderful evening… cold, yes, but I was so grateful for that colorful sky after days of grey dull clouds…. hehehe
In Zurich the last weeks of autumn are usually grey and very cold… It can be a bit sad until Advent starts (it did last week and now it’s great to have a walk in the city centre with all the Christmas markets and the beautiful lights…). But after Christmas the weather improves a bit… still cold, but there are many sunny days and there’s so much snow in the mountains!! I’m already looking forward to the snowshoeing days ahead!! 🙂
      Have a great week!
