Continuing our journey through Lanzarote’s southwestern volcanic coast, the landscape only becomes more dramatic as you follow the edge where ancient lava meets the relentless Atlantic. This stretch of the island feels raw, almost prehistoric—a place where the elements haven’t finished speaking to each other.
Our late afternoon began at the iconic Charco de los Clicos (or Lago Verde), tucked inside a collapsed volcanic crater near El Golfo. Standing above that natural amphitheater is an extraordinary visual experience: the stark contrast between the intense, olive-green water—tinted by microscopic algae—and the pitch-black volcanic sand is something no painter could invent. Just behind it, the sculpted crater walls reveal intricate layers of ash, sculpted by centuries of wind and sea spray.
A short drive along the coast brought us to Los Hervideros, where underground lava tubes and hollow cliffs swallow the crashing swell, turning the sea into explosive bursts of white foam and cavernous roars. Framing the rugged cliffs against the horizon was the unmistakable silhouette of Montaña Bermeja, glowing in striking terracotta and rust tones.
As November drew toward the golden hour, the harsh midday contrasts melted away. The late autumn light became remarkably soft and warm, gently grazing the volcanic crests and bathing the dark basalt in amber and rose reflections. It was one of those quiet, fleeting moments behind the viewfinder where the quiet power of Lanzarote simply takes your breath away.
To bring the day to a close, we headed back to our hotel in Playa Blanca just in time to watch the sun sink into the ocean. The turbulent drama of the volcanic cliffs gave way to a much gentler, tranquil atmosphere. Looking out across the strait toward the silhouette of Fuerteventura, the soft November twilight wrapped the coastline in pastel shades of lilac, blush, and gold—the most peaceful finale to an unforgettable afternoon of light and shadow.
I hope you like them!
