It’s been a while since my last post, but there is a good reason. I recently moved to Zurich! You can imagine how crazy it is to organize everything to move to another country. And besides all the preparations and packing, I wanted to spend the last weekends I had in Ireland exploring some of the regions I couldn’t visit during these last years. These past weeks have been non-stop for me! But I’m happy I had enough time to go to those places before leaving Ireland.
One of the regions that had been in my “must visit” list in Ireland was the Northern coast of the island. I spent three days travelling from Belfast to Sligo. As I did this travel in winter, the days were very short, so the day journeys also had to be short.
I spent the first day entirely on the coast of Northern Ireland or, as it is commonly known, the Causeway Coastal Route. This trip is not very long: about 190 km, but I had planned lots of stops. From castles to beautiful cliffs, there is a lot to see in this short route. Now there are a few of these spots that are getting famous, as they have been locations for Game of Thrones. But travelling during winter has some perks: I had a lot of places for myself! Not all of them: the Dark Hedges and the Giant’s Causeway are still pretty popular spots and there are always crowds of tourists (I had to use a ND1024 filter to “erase” all the tourists in some of the photos I took at the Dark Hedges!). Apart from those popular tourist spots, I also visited the caves of Cushendun, the ruins of the Kinvane castle, the harbour of Ballintoy and I arrived to the impresive ruins of Dunluce castle with enough time to see the sun setting behind the castle.
The weather that day was incredible. It started snowing, but then it stoped and the day cleared completely. These changes allowed me to play with some filters and long exposures and other techniques. I had a lot of fun experimenting with the changeable light conditions, the water and some ND and Grad filters. I hope you like the result!
