Last year, I visited Zürich for the first time. It was just before Christmas and I fell in love with this city. Zürich is small and beautiful, standing on the mouth of the Limmat river and the northern side of the Zürich lake (or Zürichsee). I think that time the city center was packed with tourists, but I can only remember how beautifully everything was decorated for Christmas and how clean everything looked. It may be the lake and the water, the medieval buildings of the oldest part of the city, the cold or that the Swiss German reminded me a bit to the Swedish language, but this city reminds me a lot to Stockholm… and I have such great memories from the two years I lived in Stockholm!
After that great first experience, I couldn’t resist when my husband suggested me to visit Zürich again in January. The only thing I missed in my first visit was the snow, and now in January Zürich is covered with a thin white layer. It’s been such an amazing week rediscovering the city without the “Christmas crowds”. It’s a pleasure to wander around the almost empty old town and enjoy its beautiful sights almost for myself.
