Living in the outskirts of Zurich has some perks. One of my favourite is having Uetliberg, Zurich’s own mountain, very close to home. It’s always a nice place to hike or simply walk when there is no other plan: there are a lot of paths in Uetliberg, some starting a few metres from my home and they take you to the heart of the forest that covers the mountain. It always amazes me how close to the nature I feel in this country, how easy it is to evade from the stress of the city and escape to the calm of the forest or the mountains… And, of course, there are other rewards in Uetliberg! The views from the top of Uetliberg are stunning: you can see the whole city and the lake of Zurich with the Alps in the background. At the end of one of the largest and most famous paths in the mountain, the Planet trail (where you can learn the sizes and distances in the solar system) there is a nice restaurant where you can eat their delicious Apfelstrudel…
Having Uetliberg so close to home, I couldn’t resist to take my camera with me on some hikes there this Autumn. It’s been really nice to see how the forest changes during this season. The forest looks like a golden dream, there are mushrooms of all shapes everywhere and, because it’s still warm enough, the farm animals are still grazing outside their sheds…
