It’s been more than a year and a half since I got my camera. In all this time, I think I’ve learnt a lot. I’ve been trying to photograph some of the things I like the most: cityscapes at the beautiful blue hour, all kind of landscapes and a lot of long exposure photographs of waterfalls, the transitions of seasons, some wildlife and I’ve even tried some night photography. One fellow blogger asked me a few weeks ago what was my favourite subject to photograph. I though about the answer a lot. What is my favourite thing to photograph? And I finally decided that, over all the other things, I love to photograph animals. I’ve realized that I love to spend time watching wild animals, how they behave, they interact with each other… I don’t mind to sit on the ground or lie down and stay there waiting for them to do something or just come closer to me… For me, wildlife photography is more fun and challenging. I’d love to be able to spend more time doing it.
When I went to Scotland in June one of the things that excited me the most was the opportunity to see its wildlife. I hoped to see red squirrels and wild deer. Well, I was a bit disappointed. I found deer, but I couldn’t photograph them close enough with my telephoto lens. And I didn’t see any red squirrel…
Fortunately, Dublin has the perfect spot where I can forget my disappointment. I’ve already told you about Phoenix Park and its beautiful herd of fallow deer. This weekend the weather was nice: warm, cloudy but not rainy, so my husband and I went to the Park to see the deer. At this time of the year, they’ve changed their coat and they all have the beautiful Bambi-like appearance. The bucks already have their huge and beautiful antlers. And best of all, the fawns are already born and big enough to roam freely in the meadow. We also went to the pond of the park. The cute six cygnets I saw a few weeks ago are now much bigger!
I feel very fortunate to have this place so close to my home. It’s a wonderful experience to witness how these amazing wild animals live and grow. For me, this is the best of Dublin!
