I like when we have visits. It’s the perfect oportunity to make short trips to new places! So when my parents in law visited us a few days ago, we decided to take them to a place we’ve never been before: Rheinfall and city of Schaffhausen.
Rheinfall, the Rhine waterfalls, are the largest plain waterfall in Europe. They are located close to the village of Neuhausen am Rheinfall. It’s an impressive sight: the thunderous mass of water falling through the rocks with the Schloss Laufen (castle Laufen) at the top of the hill on the Zurich side of the river, overlooking the waterfall.
When I read about the largest “plain waterfall in Europe”, the part of “plain” didn’t convinced me… After visited Iceland there are not many waterfalls that one can consider big or great. But I have to say that I loved Rheinfall! It was amazing to see the power of the water falling from so close (the view points are so close to the waterfall that you can touch the water). And a few meters above the waterfall the water was so clean, with incredibly beautiful colours! Now I wonder how it will look during winter with snow… I’m looking forward to visit again this place!
After the waterfalls, we went to the medieval city of Schaffhousen, where we strolled through the cute streets of the city centre and climbed to the Munot, a circular fortification from the 16th century surrounded by vineyards where you can enjoy the views of the roofs of the city.
