After a very unusual dry autumn, winter is being cold and humid here in Dublin. Specially cold. Even when the sun decides to show up, it is still freezing! But this isn’t enough reason to stay at home. This is why I couldn’t say no when a few friends and fellow photographers proposed to go to the Wicklow mountains for a short hike a few weeks ago (you can see their inspiring work here: Antppe, Joe Ladrigan and Abe Neihum).
We went to Lough Bray, a beautiful and unspoiled area not far from Dublin. The views were incredible: two beautiful dark lakes at the bottom of a valley, surrounded by high cliffs on one side which gives the landscape a feeling of wilderness. The hike itself wasn’t very difficult but the recent weather had transformed the ground into icy mud and the wind was really cold. There was even a bit of snow! Nonetheless, I really enjoyed the walk around the two lakes, and even more when we met a small herd of wild goats. We finished the hike with enough time to go to Sally’s Gap, another beautiful area in the Wicklow mountains, to watch a beautiful sunset.
