Last week I didn’t post anything… I was in Spain, celebrating my birthday with my family and friends, and I didn’t feel like paying attention to the blog or the social networks during those days. I just focused on enjoying the weekend as much as I could and I didn’t even take any camera with me…

But I’m back!! These days in Madrid have been awesome and I feel I have recharged the batteries… Now I’m so looking forward to the next weekend and the adventures that I’m sure it will bring! I cannot wait to go to the mountains with the camera again!

That’s what I’m feeling while I’m editing the photos from this post… I discovered this place through a photo I saw on the Internet… I don’t even remember where! But this ridge got my attention immediately. After seeing it, I did a little research and I discovered its location. I was surprised when I knew that this place is in Appenzell, at the other side of the mountains that surround Seealpsee! I recently showed you this beautiful Swiss lake during Spring (and a little while ago during Winter). So I added these new mountains to my places-to-go list.

To visit this place, I hiked a route called the Geological path. The route starts at Hoher Kasten, a 1800m peak with views of Lake Constance in Germany, the Alps in Liechtenstein and Austria, the delta of the riven Rhine, the hilly green landscape of Appenzell and the Alpstein mountain range and the lake Sämtisersee. From there, the path goes along the ridge to Saxer Lücke, a gap in the Alpstein mountains with incredible rock formations. From there, the path descends to the lakes Fälensee and Sämtisersee, before ending at the small town of Brülisau.

It was a beautiful and a bit difficult hike (very steep and descending, my knees felt it), but as always happens in Switzerland, the views were so rewarding that I can hardly remember the pain or the tiredness! I didn’t know that the Alpstein mountains have so many beautiful landscapes, but I’m eager to keep exploring its secrets (and it’s also a good excuse to also buy more delicious cheese from this region!!).

Here are some photos I took during this hike. I hope you like them!!
