Well, it took a bit longer than last year, but spring is finally here. And it looks it won’t last long!! These last days have been more like summer in Switzerland. The sun shines and the temperatures are almost 30º C in some parts of the country!! With this amazing weather, it’s hard to stay at home. I just want to go out and explore!

This is why last weekend we did two hikes. I told you about the first one in my previous post. A lovely 20km hike along the Zugersee in a Cherry blossoms heaven. This post is about the second one.

A friend suggested the idea of hiking along the Stoos ridge, from Fronalpstock to Klingerstock, in Canton Schwyz. It was supposed to be an easy and beautiful hike along the ridge, with views of countless alpine peaks and lakes and many alpine flowers. What we didn’t know is that spring hadn’t reached those altitudes yet!! There was still a lot of snow, the trail wasn’t clean and the gondolas weren’t working (a lot of mountain resorts in Switzerland are closed these days before the summer season starts again in late May). Suddenly, the easy short hike became something more exhausting and we had to take a detour to reach the first peak. But it was worth it! The views from the top were stunning: we could see the Vierwaldstättersee (Lake Lucerne), Zugersee, Ägerisee, Mt. Pilatus and Mt. Rigi and many others in the Alps! After deciding that we couldn’t continue the hike along the ridge (the path was completely covered in snow and we didn’t have snowshoes), we had a nice picnic at the closed mountain restaurant, enjoyed the warm sun for a while and then we headed back to Stoos and from there, to Brunnen, where we finished our hiking day.

Here are some photos I took that day. The air was a bit humid and visibility from the top wasn’t the best, but I like the photos I got. Now I am looking forward to repeating this hike during summer or autumn, with more green, flowers and beautiful views!!
