After three days exploring the northern Scottish Highlands following the North Coast 500 route (see here the part I, part II and part III), we arrived to Inverness in a very cold and grey afternoon. It was June, but the weather seemed very wintry for us and the city didn’t look very nice to photograph it under these conditions, so we explored it a little and went early to our bed and breakfast to rest. The following day we woke up early as we had an intensive plan: a trip around the famous Loch Ness.
We started the day making a little detour to visit the ruins of the Beauly priory and the impressive Plodda waterfalls, a beautiful fall almost 50m high located in a remote forest area of Glen Affric.
Then we headed to the Loch Ness with its beautiful sights: the Urquhart Castle on the shore of the lake, the beautiful old bridge of Invermorriston and the waterfalls of the river Morriston running under the bridge, the views of the Loch Garry (where we could see an impressive eagle flying above us), the beginning of the Caledonian Canal in Fort Augustus and the beautiful scenery of the Falls of Foyers.  It was a pity that the weather wasn’t very pleasant that day, cold, cloudy, dark and windy, as the places we visited were stunning and the poor conditions didn’t allow me to take better photographs. I guess I have a good reason to come back to the Loch Ness, try to capture it in better conditions and look for Nessie again! 🙂
