I was looking forward to explore a bit more of Switzerland during my last trip to Zurich. I had only a weekend so, after considering a few options, I decided to spend a day in Lucerne. I couldn’t have chosen better!
Lucerne is located in central Switzerland in a stunning scenary: the shore of the lake Lucerne and at the doors of the Alps, with beautiful views of the impressive mounts Pilatus and Rigi, and divided by the river Reuss. The old town is a succession of streets of medieval buildings with painted facades and beautiful squares, all perfectly preserved, old timber bridges and gorgeous churches. Lucerne is a city full of life and light but also a bit melancholic and majestic. No wonder why it’s one of the most turistic places in Switzerland since the times of some of its most distinguished visitors, Queen Victoria, Wagner, Goethe or Mark Twain.
